Opera Holland Park’s complete staging of Puccini’s 1911 triptych of one-act operas opened the 2015 Season and saw the company’s first nomination for a Royal Phiharmonic Society Award. Singing the roles of Giorgetta in Il tabarro and Angelica in Suor Angelica, the French soprano Anne Sophie Duprels was compared to the great Canadian soprano Teresa Stratas by Rupert Christiansen of The Daily Telegraph for the emotional intensity of her performances.
Stuart Stratford conducted the City of London Sinfonia in the former OHP Young Artist Oliver Platt’s revival of Martin Lloyd Evans’s 2012 production of Gianni Schicchi, with Richard Burkhard in the title role and Anna Patalong as Schicchi’s daughter, Lauretta. Stephen Gadd was the cuckolded husband in Lloyd-Evans’s new production of Il tabarro, and Rosalind Plowright sang the role of the Principessa in Platt’s new production of Suor Angelica.
