Can you tell us about your role at OHP?

Rosina is, in a word, a minx. She’s extremely clever, a little bit flirty and very good at manipulating the people around her into doing what she wants! She is, against her will, the ward of Doctor Bartolo. And with ‘Lindoro’ (Count Almaviva in disguise), she sees the possibility of a better life of love, happiness and freedom!

What are you most looking forward to about this role?

The incredibly exciting and clever music, the extremely fun coloratura, the incredibly talented colleagues and SO MUCH MORE. This is my dream role and I really can’t wait to get started! 

What do you hope to learn or gain from the Opera Holland Park Young Artists scheme?

To be given the opportunity to fully learn and perform a role on the Opera Holland Park stage has already taught me lots and I know this process will continue to teach me many lessons, vocally and otherwise. During my time as an OHP Young Artist, I hope to gain some confidence in my identity as an artist, and learn from the huge amount of expertise on offer from the team at OHP. 

Are there any roles you haven’t performed yet that you’d like to?

Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Angelina (La Cenerentola), Meg (Little Women), Ruggiero (Alcina) and hundreds more! 

How do you prepare for a new role?

Lots of time spent in the practice room on my own and also with very clever and insightful coaches. Lots of time spent writing out translations of the libretto, working out the subtexts and much more (including a good deal of daydreaming about what the costumes will be like). 

What is one piece of advice, musical or otherwise, that you’ve been given that has stayed with you?

After my dad passed away, we found a gem on the final page of his notebook – the words “Enjoy Yourself”, thoroughly underlined. I try to live by that rule now!
