Can you tell us about your role at OHP?

I am multi-rolling as Bob Evert and Kinch in Dove’s Itch; the former owning the tin mine where Itch and Jack work and the latter a stooge of the Greencorps Corporation.

What are you most looking forward to about this role?

I’m excited to explore multiple characters and bring their varied traits to life on the stage.

What do you hope to learn or gain from the Opera Holland Park Young Artists scheme?

I am looking forward to working with the OHP team in all its aspects; from its professional mentorship as well as singing in a full public performance in front of specially invited guests from the industry.

How do you approach preparing for a new role?

It usually depends on the repertoire. With more contemporary writing such as this I will usually sit at a piano and drill it over and over again until it sticks. I usually start with the rhythms to a metronome and add the notes as I start to get more confident. Slow and not very nuanced but this is the work!

Itch follows a fourteen-year-old obsessed with collecting elements from the Periodic Table. Do you have a strange or niche interest like Itch?

Do video games count?

What’s one piece of advice, musical or otherwise, that has stayed with you?

Keep going and when one door closes another one usually opens.
