From femme fatale to feminist icon, is it time to look at Carmen with new eyes?
As part of IFRU’s Women Shaping the World Festival, cultural historian Claire Lozier, opera critic Erica Jeal and director Cecilia Stinton join Opera Holland Park’s Anna Picard to consider how Carmen can be viewed through a feminist lens.
With music from mezzo-soprano Clare Presland and conductor and pianist Sonia Ben Santamaria, we examine Merimée’s novel, Bizet’s opera, cultural stereotyping and the troublesome trope of the femme fatale.
Booking opens on Friday 11 February from IFRU’s website here. Alternatively please call 020 7871 3515.
