Our 2018 Season featured four critically-acclaimed productions, including Rodula Gaitanou’s five star La traviata and OHP’s first Richard Strauss opera, Ariadne auf Naxos, co-produced with Scottish Opera.

The season also included the inaugural OHP Schools’ Matinee, a fully-staged performance of La traviata for nearly 1,000 local school pupils, and the Hope for Grenfell Memorial Gala, which raised over £120,000 for the Rugby Portobello Trust and won the 2018 BroadwayWorld UK Award for Theatrical Event of the Year.

Rodula Gaitanou, the director of La traviata, and the 2016 OHP production of The Queen of Spades, has been shortlisted in the Best Director category. She returns to Opera Holland Park to direct this year’s production of Un ballo in maschera.

Finally, Pietro Mascagni’s Isabeau has been nominated in the Rediscovered Work category. It received its UK premiere during the 2018 Season, in a production starring Anne Sophie Duprels in the title role, with David Butt Philip as her lover, Folco. The opera is a loose retelling of the medieval legend of Lady Godiva, and was co-produced with New York City Opera.

Opera Holland Park also saw success at last year’s International Opera Awards, with the Inspire programme winning the Education & Outreach category.

The 2019 International Opera Awards ceremony will take place on April 29 at Sadler’s Wells.
