Opera singers Sarah Parkin, Peter Martin, Maud Millar, John Lofthouse and Lara Rebekah Harvey, together with director Genevieve Raghu, have devised dynamic lessons for different age groups with fun singing exercises for the younger age groups and introductions to operatic music, terminology, stories and characters for older age groups.

From the Magic Travel Machine to Musetta’s Waltz Song the lessons open up the world of sung drama, continuing Opera Holland Park’s work with schools and families. Live-streamed lessons can also be arranged with school groups by contacting the Inspire team at inspire@operahollandpark.com.

Singing is a wonderful tool for relaxing the body and engaging the mind. While the youngest viewers can enjoy learning nonsense songs and playing with rhythms, teenagers can follow Maud Millar’s three part guide to women in love, using music by Schubert, Puccini and Mozart.

Opera Holland Park’s Chief Executive and Director of Opera, James Clutton says: “Speaking to friends with children who are learning at home, I’ve been acutely aware of the need for more music during lockdown and the pressure that teachers are under. It’s a privilege to be able to do something about this, and a pleasure to see what our artists have created for the different age groups.”

The series opens with Peter Martin’s Silly Warm Up for ages 7–11 on Monday 25 January, available on Opera Holland Park’s Facebook page from 10am.
