British soprano Gweneth-Ann Rand took the title role in Daniel Slater’s provocative production of Aida, relocated to the Egyptian gallery of a wealthy museum in the West.
Decadence, excess and conspicuous cruelty were contrasted with the economic slavery of Aida and her love for Peter Auty’s Radamès in the company’s first production of this opera, while the Opera Holland Park Chorus was described as being “in lusty form” by Richard Fairman of The Financial Times.
