Muriel E. Pusey and Denis W. J. Pusey were avid attendees of Opera Holland Park for many years, frequently delighting friends and family with large planned picnics they would enjoy together before attending a show. Sadly Muriel died in 2020, with Denis passing only last month.
Funds raised in memory of Muriel and Denis Pusey will go towards Opera Holland Park’s Young Artist programme, in particular their involvement with the outreach and education project Inspire and London charity Resonate Arts in the Opera for Thought project, engaging and supporting those living with dementia and their carers.
Supporting members of our community with memory impairment is a central part of Inspire’s mission to ensure that no local music lovers feel excluded from our work. Scientific research shows that music can improve behavioural issues such as reducing agitation in people with dementia, as it provides a way to connect through a shared experience.
Opera for Thought provides 5 weeks of music engagement sessions providing a comfortable space for those with dementia to explore music and learn a new skill through gentle repetition and exploration. Our Young Artists use one of our opera productions as a focus and the project culminates in the group coming to a performance during our summer season.
