Lada Valešová and Rosamund Bartlett talk to Anna Picard about Tchaikovsky’s life and music from his miniatures for solo piano to Eugene Onegin.
Rosamund Bartlett, cultural historian, translator and biographer of Tolstoy and Chekhov, and Opera Holland Park’s Anna Picard discuss Pushkin’s verse novel and the germination of Tchaikovsky’s most well-loved opera. They are joined by Lada Valešová, pianist and conductor of the 2020 Young Artists performance of Eugene Onegin.
Featuring musical excerpts, we examine Tchaikovsky’s life, Pushkin’s work, the characters of Onegin, Tatyana, Lensky and Olga, and the connection between the opera and Tchaikovsky’s works for solo piano.
