Our pre-season panel events continue with a focus on Janáček's enchanting portrayal of animal and human life in the Moravian forest.
Inspired by a comic strip in a newspaper, The Cunning Little Vixen takes the listener into a world where foxes, badgers, frogs, dogs and chickens sing as humans. Conductor and pianist Lada Valešová, musicologist James Savage-Hanford and Times critic Neil Fisher join Anna Picard to explore the musical world of Janáček’s anthropomorphised heroine, Vixen Sharp-Ears, the vibrant cultural life of 1920s Czechoslovakia, and the changing relationship of man to nature in opera.
