Can you tell us about your role at OHP?
Miss Watkins is Itch’s science teacher. She’s academically intelligent, as well as sympathetic and caring towards her students.
What are you most looking forward to about this role?
I am looking forward to playing a role that is wholeheartedly ‘good’ and exploring the colours this helps me find in Watkins’ soaring vocal lines.
What do you hope to learn or gain from the Opera Holland Park Young Artists scheme
I hope to gain confidence and experience doing a role with a professional company, as well as learn from the other singers in the cohort and the cast I’ll be covering.
Are there any roles you haven’t performed yet that you’d like to?
I would love to play Hansel – he’s such a cheeky chap, and Humperdinck’s music is beautiful.
Itch follows a fourteen-year-old obsessed with collecting elements from the Periodic Table. Do you have a quirky or niche interest like Itch?
I spend a lot of my free time researching my family history. Recently I have discovered a letter belonging to an ancestor who fought in WWI.
The character that you’re playing in Itch, Miss Watkins, is a teacher. Is there a piece of advice from a teacher that has stayed with you?
I remember being told to bite my tongue if my mouth is dry when I’m nervous by a primary school teacher, and this has been (unsurprisingly) helpful as a singer!
