Can you tell us about your role at OHP?

I’m playing Itch, a teenage boy. He’s a bit socially awkward and isn’t into football and surfing like some people at school, but he does have a passion for collecting elements. As a result of a scientific discovery he makes in the opera, Itch matures into a more responsible and decisive young man.

What are you most looking forward to about this role?

I’m looking forward to making my debut at Opera Holland Park and being part of this production. I can see a few similarities between Itch and me, and am looking forward to playing someone who is very enthusiastic and has a good sense of humour. I’m also excited for some explosive reactions!

What do you hope to learn or gain from the Opera Holland Park Young Artists scheme?

I hope to gain lots of new experiences – working with the creative team, bouncing off the rest of the cast, and seeing the other amazing productions at OHP this summer.

Do you have a dream role that you’d like to perform that you haven’t yet?

I’m not sure if it’s the direction my voice might go, but if it did I would love to perform Peter Grimes. I think there are so many layers to his character that would be interesting to unpack.

Itch follows a fourteen-year-old obsessed with collecting elements from the Periodic Table. Do you have a weird obsession?

I am weirdly obsessed with The Traitors since the New Year, but who isn’t?

What’s one piece of advice, musical or otherwise, that has stayed with you?

A teacher gave me some advice which I try to remember: you know you’re developing as a singer when you feel your average day improve, rather than your best day. I try not to beat myself up too much when I’m feeling vocally tired, and try to be aware of small improvements.
