Based on the story of an Iranian refugee who lived in Charles de Gaulle airport for several years, Jonathan Dove’s 1998 opera on a group of travellers grounded by a storm was the overnight success of Opera Holland Park’s 2015 Season. Stephen Barlow’s bright, humane production of Flight gained a string of four and five star reviews from The Sunday Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Financial Times, The Times and online publications.
Conducted by Brad Cohen, a first class ensemble cast included Kitty Whately and George von Bergen as the libidinous air-stewards, and countertenor James Laing as the paperless Refugee. Coloratura soprano Jennifer France (Die Fledermaus 2016, Ariadne auf Naxos 2018) made a triumphant company debut as the Controller, and reprised her performance in Barlow’s 2018 revival of the production for Scottish Opera with designer Andrew Riley.
