FAQs

Is my child suitable for this?

If your child is in school years 5 to 8 and is enthusiastic about singing and performing then yes! We just ask that participants are willing to work with others, follow direction and are able to attend the full 10 sessions.

How is this different to a choir?

The Youth Chorus will focus on classical singing whilst story-telling. Participants will learn what it’s like to be part of an opera chorus covering key elements including movement, direction and staging.

Who will run the sessions?

Our specialist and highly-experienced OHP musician will be running these workshops alongside invited guest teachers.

How much does this cost?

Nothing! At Opera Holland Park we believe that every young person should be able to access high quality music and drama opportunities no matter what their background.

As such, we are offering places on our Youth Chorus for no cost to the parent/carer. As this is a fully funded programme for no cost, students from low income backgrounds/pupil premium students will be prioritised.

How do I apply?

To apply for your child, please complete this short form. If you need support with this, please email inspire@operahollandpark.com

Does my child need to audition?

No, there is no audition, but parents/carers must complete the application form by 1st December.

How will you decide who gets a place in the Youth Chorus?

There is no audition to be part of our Youth Chorus. If we receive more applications than we have places, we will use factors including pupil premium status, and motivations for joining the chorus from the application form. If we have more interest than spaces, we will operate a waiting list.

When do applications close and when will I hear whether my child has got a place?

Applications will close on 1st December. We will be in touch with every applicant by 13th December to confirm whether we are able to offer your child a place.

If my child is successful in getting a place, what do I have to do?

Once we have contacted you to confirm your child has got a place on the chorus, you will be sent information and a sign-up form to complete in order to confirm your child’s place. You must complete this by the deadline, or your child’s place may be offered to someone on the waiting list.

Will I be able to watch the sessions?

We plan to host at least one sharing for parents during the term, where we’ll invite you to watch a performance and celebrate your child’s achievements.

Will the Youth Chorus continue beyond 31st March?

We hope to continue the Youth Chorus into the Summer term, however this will depend on feedback during the term, and whether there is sufficient demand.

I have another question!

Please email inspire@operahollandpark.com and we will get back to you.
